Tin-loaded Plastics

Plastic Scintillators

RMD‘s tin-loaded plastic scintillators are organic scintillators that contain fluorescent emitters (i.e. “fluors”) suspended in a solid polymer base. They are typically made by dissolving the fluor into the monomer prior to bulk polymerization. The main advantages over many other organic and inorganic scintillators is that they are very rugged and can be made in any shape and size. They typically have light yields on the order of 10,000 ph/MeV and have a fast scintillation decay on the order of 1 to 10ns. The emission wavelength can vary from 400 to 600nm, depending on the fluor used.

Dual-Mode Tin-loaded Plastic ScintillatorDual-Mode Plastic Scintillators

RMD’s dual-mode tin-loaded organic scintillators can be used for gross counting while offering the additional benefit of providing neutron/gamma pulse shape discrimination (PSD).

Triple Mode Tin-loaded Plastic ScintillatorTriple-Mode Plastic Scintillators

RMD’s triple-mode tin-loaded organic scintillators offer the same characteristics as RMD’s dual-mode plastic scintillators, but with the added benefit of providing gamma-ray spectroscopy. They are the first low-cost, practical neutron and gamma scintillation detector for use as a replacement for both medium resolution gamma-ray detectors and Helium-3/Helium-4 proportional counter tubes for (thermal/fast) neutron detection.
